Connotative words, sensory images and figurative language contribute to the mood of a selection.  4. Motif - unifying element in an artistic work, especially any recurrent image, symbol, theme, character type, subject or narrative details. 5. Oxymoron - figure of speech where two contrasting/contradicting words are used together giving the effect of a condensed paradox. 6.
